Story: Biographical sketch by her niece Anna

Aunt Sal lived close to us in Port Huron while I was growing up, and she was a favorite relative of mine. I remember her particularly for her beautiful garden and houseplants, and for the china cup and saucer collection she put together for me. She had a cocker spaniel, Timmy Joe, who was her constant companion while she was in bed (for many years) after a heart attack. He could do all kinds of clever tricks like rolling over and balancing a ball on his nose.

Story told by her sister, Nan

Sal was the last of the Riedel children to be born in Forestville (Michigan). Mother decided the hotel was too rough a place to be bringing up children when little Selma, who fortunately didn't speak too clearly, said to a squirrel she had just chased up a tree: "You dod dam son bits. Will you tum down?"
