In mid-September, 2026 I took a picture of a galaxy, NGC 7331, with my Seestar telescope. The next day I was doing some reading about the object in general and learned that it is large galaxy 44 light-years away. Things got exciting though, when I read that on September 1st, astronomers had just discovered a supernova in that same galaxy, which I had unknowingly captured in my photo. The picture below shows the galaxy and the supernova inside it.

This is a type 1a supernova. It is caused by a white dwarf star orbiting a larger star that scooped up so much matter from the central star that it started a sudden fusion reaction in the white dwarf star that caused it to explode violently.
