For the rest of this year and into 2021, we’ve given ourselves a challenge: to visit as many of the 54 Sonoma County regional parks as we can, and identify our top-ten favorites (the favorites are marked with an asterisk).
This post adds one more regional parks to our series.
* Tolay Lake Regional Park, Petaluma
This is the largest regional park in Sonoma County. It’s in the hills above Petaluma, about 17 miles from where we live.
The park area has been home to native Americans for 8000 years and was a ranch starting in the 1800s. Now it’s a park with lots of trails and some old ranch buildings to visit.
We like to visit it because the trails are wide and mostly level. There are many birds to be seen there as well. See the picture of the hawk above.
The lake is seasonal, and was dry when we visited.
