Highlights 2003

December 17, 2003

20488 Stevens Creek Blvd Apt 1816, Cupertino, CA 95014
(Address through October: 4029 Redondo Dr, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762)

At the beginning of the year we finished writing and publishing The El Dorado Hills Handbook, a book about the town we lived in east of Sacramento. It’s the only book about El Dorado Hills that we know of. In addition, Dick wrote a small book called My High-tech Adventure describing his experiences working in the computer industry for 37 years. We gave away a few copies to family and friends. Writing both books was a lot of fun.

Anna spent a lot of time this year on community projects; most notably she was the author of the El Dorado Hills Community Calendar, which is being sold as a fund-raiser by various groups in the El Dorado Hills community.

Since we had the time, we did a lot of travel during the year. Trips included classes in Portland; a seminar in Tucson in February; Hearst Castle in March; RV camping in Nevada, Utah, and Colorado in May; and a month in Australia and New Zealand in September and October. In addition to all that, we went on many hikes in the Sierra Nevada mountains in and around Lake Tahoe. Quite a pretty spot!

Three special events this year were the celebration of Anna’s Aunt Dorothy’s 90th birthday, and Tim and Liz’s engagement, and our 40th wedding anniversary.

In August our entire family spent a week at Fallen Leaf Lake. Everybody had a good time except Jill, who got a nasty case of food poisoning.

Anna tried diligently throughout the year to find technical writing contracts in Sacramento, all to no avail. Then in October she got a call from a former co-worker asking if she would like to try working at a software company. To make a long story short, she took the job (at a startup called Skytide), we moved back to the Bay Area and are once again living in Cupertino.

We are happier being nearer to some of our kids and their families. Ellen is still a writer at IBM and is team lead for a DB2 database product. Rick has a new management job at Intel with groups in Folsom and Santa Clara. Tim does websites and direct marketing in Santa Cruz. Liz is stustitute teaching in San Jose, and is planning their wedding. Jill is in her last year of law school at Arizona State University, and is eager to be done with school. She is doing well and recently got on the law review. Mike is working as an architectural photographer in Phoenix; he gets to travel some and has been on assignment as far away as Puerto Rico.

Our grandson Matthew is in the second grade and likes bikes and Yu-Gi-O cards. Miranda is in pre-kindergarten and likes singing and dancing. They are both wizards on the computer.
