William and Catherine were my great grandparents. They were married on April 12, 1882, in Auburn, New York. The picture above is from the time of their wedding. William was born in 1862 in Handsworth, Staffordshire, England. Catherine was born 1865 in Ireland, near Dublin.

They were married in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Here is a copy of the entry in the church registry for their marriage (in Latin):

William emigrated to the US in 1880, and at the time of the wedding he was working as a wagon maker. He went on to become a sash maker and eventually a building contractor and Alderman of Auburn in 1910.

William and Catherine had 5 children before Catherine’s early death from Tuberculosis in 1889. My grandfather Edward was their first child.
