Happy birthday to my great-great-grandmother, Margaret Sevilla Broughton. She was born September 21, 1846, in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. Norfolk County is on the North Shore of Lake Erie, West of Buffalo, NY. Many of my Robins, Bye, and Broughton ancestors lived near here, and worked as farmers.
Margaret married James Robins in 1864. James was a teamster. One of their four children was my great-grandfather John Darling Robins. After James’s death in 1906, Margaret migrated to Tonawanda, NY, where she lived with her son Albert Robins. She died April 12, 1935, from pneumonia.
My father Harold remembered Margaret from his childhood. he said she was called “Little Grandma,” that she had a strong personality, and that she smoked a clay pipe.
(She looks like a tough customer in her picture above, doesn’t she?!)
