Journal

The last week in July 2011 we spent with our two daughters and their families in a rented house in South Lake Tahoe.

Dick and I arrived a few days early and biked on the American River in the Sacramento area.

We picked up the Blomquists at the Sacramento airport on Saturday the 23rd; the Livengoods arrived in Tahoe the following day.

Matthew was already on the injured list with broken wrist suffered when he was jogging backwards (!) while training for the fall cross-country season. The day after the Livengoods arrived Ellen reinjured a tendon in her calf (she sped uphill at the end of a run and it "snapped"). Rick took her to the local urgent care center, and fortunately it was a tendon that apparently serves no useful purpose in the human leg. (Why do we have these things?!) So although it was sore for a few days, Ellen was able to participate fully in all the active fun by the end of the week.

July 29 was Gillian and Mike's 11th anniversary, and they were married at Andi and Richard's cabin (which Andi no longer owns) at Fallen Leaf Lake. We celebrated with a dinner at Fire and Ice by the Heavenly gondola, and on the way out of town we sneaked in close enough to the cabin to take a few family photos.

Other highlights were sand-castle building, more biking, running, golfing, boating, swimming, fishing, gondola rides, hiking, shopping at the Pirate Store, being imaginative with toy animals and other creatures, complaining about the mess in Washington, and playing Munchkin Quest and WII games.
